We’ve been raving about Piney Gir since we first saw her perform back in 2004. She’s been through many incarnations since then, from the electro pop of debut album Peakahokahoo, the all-girl garage riot of The Schla La Las, the down-home charm of The Piney Gir Country Roadshow and the retro-tinged Technicolor guitar pop of her current album mR hYDE’S wILD rIDE from which today’s track is taken.
‘Gold Rules’ is a foot-tapping number with a pleasingly squelchy bass line and jangling guitar backing up Piney’s sugar sweet vocal. The video sees her literally pulling the strings, though after watching this you might not want to try one of her cakes any time soon.
