Video Premiere: Astrologer – Mania

Astrologer is the project of Phoenix, Arizona based musician and songwriter Drew Cline, who is joined by a host of collaborators on his seven-track debut EP Legerdemain (L), due for release in November via Lolipop Records. Chief amongst them is Candy Caballero, who provides lead and backing vocals throughout, as well as teaming up with Salvador Cresta to create the band’s visuals; while elsewhere instrumentation is provided by Wyatt Blair and Don Bolles of Germs & 45 Grave. Together they’ve created a record of what Cline describes as “an experimental pop mosaic”.

Today, we’re delighted to bring you a first opportunity to see the video for new single “Mania”, which is out tomorrow. A jittery, one-chord garage pop blast provides the backdrop for Clines rambling stream of consciousness spoken word vocal rant. Musically it’s savagely simple to the point of creating a near hypnotic state through its relentless repetition, which fits perfectly with the frenzied vocal. Drew explains,“‘Mania’ is my attempt at a song that captures the feeling of hypomania. I tried to make something that reflects the frenetic energy and fragmented thought processes… Something demented and unrelenting. And it’s all sincere and true.”

The track is paired with a fast-cut video with a retro-VHS aesthetic, created by Cabellero and Cresta. Cline tells us, “The video was made pretty much as an excuse to hang out with our friends and act silly.”

“Mania” is out on 8th October via Lolipop Records and is taken from their debut EP, due in November.
