Forty years in and Chicago’s musical adventurers Cheer-Accident are still exploring the furthest reaches, with a new album Here Comes The Sunset – their 24th – due out on SKiN GRAFT Records (home to Melt Banana, PRE and Joyzine faves Tijuana Hercules and Koenjihyakkei) next month.
It’s a record that throws together disparate elements of cut up r&b, a heady dose of prog rock, a dash of melancholia and something oddly resembling Eurodance and somehow makes it all work. Today, we’re delighted to bring you a first glimpse of the wonders in store with an exclusive premiere of album opener ‘Star Vehicle (4 Flats)’.
Asked about the track, founder / leader Thymme (pronounced Tim) Jones explains, “Being a microscopic single-celled organism in a small pond can still (somehow) entice people to attempt to hitch their wagon to our success story. Continuing to mix metaphors with diatoms, this is what they learn: Our star vehicle has four flats.”
