Female fronted music is something that I’m very interested in, so when the opportunity came up to review ‘The Dirt’ by Alabama based Katie Crutchfield or Waxahatchee as she is more commonly known as in the music world, I couldn’t resist. It’s so great seeing females rise up in the music industry and making names for themselves. ‘The Dirt’ is from her third album, Ivy Tripp and I must say I loved it.
‘The Dirt’ is full of the emotion and passion that you have come to expect from Waxahatchee. It’s deep and you can honestly feel something deep inside you wanting to come out. You will be transported away to the American South East and won’t want to leave. Listening to this gave me goosebumps, honestly. The melody behind the track is rather delicate with a pinch of sensibility and the pure emotional rawness of it makes it stand out amongst others, and makes you realise what made Waxahatchee a household name.
The combination of alt-rock and hard indie makes this a track that will be hard to forget. Waxahatchee is doing it for the women and she is succeeding without a doubt.
