Christmas is a time for catching up with old friends, a time for community, so for day seven of the Joyzine Advent Calendar we someone who’s featured on almost every one of our thirteen years of free musical downloads and who this year has been working on a very special community recording project in Southwell, Lincolnshire.
Chris T-T was the lead artist in an eight month creative residential project organised by Lincoln based collective CommonAs, during which time he collaborated with volunteers and visitors to the Southwell Victorian Workhouse to create a series of works about the former residents of the workhouse and the building’s contemporary resonance. These were then performed at a special live event at The Workhouse in October. Chris has provided us with a track from the project, ‘John Fogg’s Downfall’, for today’s calendar track.
Amongst all of that, Chris also found time to release 9 Green Songs, a sort of follow-up to his earlier work 9 Red Songs, released a decade earlier. Pulling no punches and providing satire, fury and emotional poignancy in equal abundance, it’s makes essential listening for the turbulent political times in which we find ourselves.
