Playlist: Roadkill Records Summer Weekender

Roadkill Records have been responsible for some of our favourite gigs over the past couple of years, and this weekend they’re hosting a huge free entry summer extravaganza at The Lock Tavern in Camden, packed to the gills with great surf, psych and garage rock acts.

Here’s Roadkill head honcho Josh Cooper’s guide to the weekend’s action, complete with a 16 track playlist of the bands who’ll be taking the stage:

Saturday 5th

The Cavemen
We’re dead excited to have these guys headline Saturday, we’ve caught them a few times and they play like no one you’ve seen before. There was really no doubt who we wanted to top the bill this year, it had to be The Cavemen.

Table Scraps
A recent obsession of ours, Table Scraps play really fuzzy rock n’ roll with a shedload of effects. They’re also excellent songwriters and they have a Theremin, which is probably the coolest instrument there is.

Hanzo
We used their track in the trailer for the festival cos we’ve listened to it every day since they sent it to us. Seriously, go listen to ‘Tarantula’. We’re going to.

Snakerattlers
Good friends since their Franceens days, this is the first time we’ve had them in their current incarnation. They had us up to York a little while ago with The Sly Persuaders for their album launch and it was perfect.

Heavy Sugar
We recently released a tape with Dirty White Fever and had a big launch party so when I had Dom booked for this he told me about a new band he’s been working on with members of Bad For Lazarus. This will be their first London show so we’re psyched to have them.

Broken Soundtracks
It wouldn’t be Roadkill without them, unfortunately this is their last show so it never will be again. We’re releasing a special edition single with some friends though and it’ll be a big farewell party, plus a celebration of new things to come.

The Higher Planes
We love these guys, properly soulful blues, whiskey drinkin’ driving music. We think they’ll be the perfect vibe before the evening bands

White Ape
These guys are ace. We’re stealing them away from our rivals, Some Weird Sin.

Abominable Soul
Definitely too loud to play this early in the day but we’re not aiming to ease people in here, it’s full steam ahead from the word go.

Sunday 6th

DOLLS
Dolls are long-time favourites of ours, they’ve played before and have been coming to our nights since the early days. They’ve been off the gig circuit for a little while but they’re making a huge comeback and we’re really honoured to have them take the big finale.

Bonfire Nights
Hands down one of London’s finest. They’re great and every show gets better and better. Also they’re just lovely.

Déjà Vega
Been trying to get these guys down since forever. We’re really happy this was the one that it we nailed them though cos it’s the perfect line-up to fit them in.

Muertos
We will never not book Muertos, they’re amazing and they’re very involved in the label and various aspects of it. They really add something special to the whole thing.

Pale Days
Formerly Sewer Rats, we had these guys on back in the Aces days and saw basically every show they did with our mates Fluffer Records. We’re itching to get them back, they’re always good for a party.

Deathcaps
Our latest signing, we’re releasing their debut EP at this very event. Definitely see them, definitely buy it – it sounds sick.

Scab Hand
Scab Hand are hot property and we’re aware we need to stay on trend so we booked them. It has nothing to do with who they are or what they sound like.

Dead Houses
These guys were a bit of a last minute edition but we’re really happy we were able to fit them in, they’re the perfect band to blow away the cobwebs from the night before.

With Roadkill DJs spinning garage, psych and surf rock all weekend!

The Roadkill Records Summer Weekender takes place at The Lock Tavern, Camden on Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th August.  Free entry, doors at 1pm.
