Soccer Six 2017: Meet Team Joyzine

Soccer Six, the festival of music and football, returns to Mile End Stadium on Sunday 17th September and Team Joyzine is back in the hunt for glory this year as we prepare to take on the likes of The Darkness, Cabbage and Joyzine faves Sisteray in a feast of footballing action.

Tickets, which include access to the football tournament and a great line-up of live music can be purchased here and there are more details including a full list of the bands taking part in the competition on the Soccer Six Facebook page.

FOOTBALLING HERO: Stuart Pearce – a mentalist streak and knows his tunes.  What’s not to love about that?
FAVOURITE FOOTBALL SONG: The original ‘Three Lions’ still brings a mist to my eye.  The sound of simpler times.

Alex is currently treading the boards playing Ian ‘Mac’ McLagan of The Small Faces, one of his all-time favourite bands, in All Or Nothing: The Mod Musical and is simultaneously putting the finishing touches to the debut Darling BOY album with producer Matt Terry (The Enemy, Noisettes).

Slide tackle on Poulton Lanclyn School’s star winger that took both of us out of the game, while wearing both a headband AND wristbands, in a match aged 11.  I’m pretty sure I got the ball.
FOOTBALLING HERO:
John Barnes – rapping ability.  Wearing excellent suits.  Talking very quickly.  Dribbling past everybody.  All my life goals right there.  Barry Venison was childhood idol #2, mostly for hair goals.
FAVOURITE FOOTBALL SONG: 
‘All I want for Christmas Is a Dukla Prague Away Kit’ by Half Man Half Biscui – I am from the Wirrall after all.  #2 ‘The Anfield Rap’.Stew will be hot-footing it out of the stadium at the final whistle for an Elvers show at The King Charles I in King’s Cross, immediately after the tournament on Sunday 17th September.

Luka Modric – the best footballer I’ve ever seen.  Hard working, graceful and generous in his play, I’m still broken-hearted that he’s at Madrid.

FAVOURED POSITION: Player/Manager
FAVOURITE TEAM: Millwall
FINEST FOOTBALLING MOMENT: I once got York City into the Champions’ League on Football Manager.
FOOTBALLING HERO: Jimmy Carter and his tricksy wing-play in the late eighties/early 90s is largely responsible for the decades of disappointment I’ve suffered as a Millwall fan.  And Neil Harris, obviously.
FAVOURITE FOOTBALL SONG: Pagan Wanderer Lu’s ‘The Gentlemen’s Game’ is an astonishingly accurate representation of my experiences as a local five-a-side league referee.
