In one of the more unexpected turns of events in our decade and a half of making Joyzine, our former home town Croydon, still very dear to our hearts, has been named the musical capital of the UK in a poll commissioned by, of all people, crisp manufacturers Pringles. The snack-makers presented local artists Nadia Rose with a special platinum Croydon-themed crisp tube to celebrate the town’s achievement. And while the poll rightly recognised the town’s prominence in the grime, trap and dubstep scenes, there are some great rock and indie bands around too.
Bugeye are amongst our favourites and the stomping indie disco of their new single ‘Is This Love’, complete cheeky nods to Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’ and a psychedelic video extravaganza is further reason to check out what’s going on in what was once the capital’s least fashionable borough.
