Live in Pictures: Shattercones at O2 Kentish Town Forum

As first gigs go, there are worse places you could begin than the cavernous auditorium of The Forum in Kentish Town.  This is where we find box-fresh quartet Shattercones – a brand new project featuring faces that will be familiar to regular readers of these pages (drummer Arran Goodchild alone must be getting close to double figures for the number of bands he’s appeared on Joyzine with).

Three of the four: Goodchild, frontman Jason Idnani-Powdrill and violist Neil Walsh were most recently members of Bridport Dagger, whose gothic Americana sound occasionally seeps through, but the addition of Dermot Watson on lap-steel guitar and the adoption of a mindset that pushes well beyond the confines of standard verse-chorus-verse constructs to take on a more epic, filmic sweep makes Shattercones an entirely different prospect and on the evidence of tonight’s confident performance in front of a filling auditorium in support of cult 80s rockers New Model Army, there’ll be plenty to look forward to in 2019.
