Walking With Thee, as everyone in the Universe should know, is one of the greatest human albums since the Big Bang… I came to it late, way after the Grammy, thanks to an Apple Music playlist. I delved into Clinic’s other albums and found nothing nearly as sublime.
Wheeltappers And Shunters is characteristically cool in a 1960s Velvet way. Every song manages to balance intense and relaxed with determined rhythms, kooky keys and divine harmonicas. It’s melancholy, sometimes fed-up, celebratory, cheeky, much like The Fall and early Floyd… Unfortunately for me it lacks the song-writing they are capable of.
