Track Premiere: Gabi Garbutt & The Illuminations – Heat of the Machine

Dubbed “the indie Stax revue” by Steve Lamacq, Gabi Garbutt and her band The Illuminations have been building up a following across the UK following a tour with Edwyn Collins, and as they prepare to head across the channel for a string of dates on the continent supporting The Libertines they’ve unveiled the latest single to be taken from their forthcoming debut album The Discredited Language of Angels, which is due for release on 15th November through the Music As Insurgent Art label.

The band feature a number of faces that will be familiar to Joyzine regulars, including members of REALS, Hot Sauce Pony and several of our other favourites, but has a distinctive sound of its own, mashing together influences from indie-pop psychonauts The Flaming Lips to Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca.  ‘Heat of the Machine’, out on 1st November floats along on a cloud of shimmering guitars blown along by a breezy horn section courtesy of Sean Read of Dexy’s Midnight Runners, and we’re delighted to bring you an exclusive first listen to the track on Joyzine today.
