Live In Pictures: Steven Horry & His Amazing Friends, Keith TOTP & His Minor UK Indie Celebrity All-Star Backing Band, Dexy + Silent Star at Paper Dress Vintage, Hackney

Joyzine signed off for 2019 with a Christmas show at Paper Dress Vintage that doubled as the 40th birthday celebrations for Steven Horry – frontman of Joyzine favourites 586 and The 18 Carat Love Affair, artist and occasional Joyzine contributor, Steve put together a band featuring a number of previous collaborators for a set of tracks from his musical past and a few well-chosen covers.

He was joined on the line-up by indie mega-band Keith TOTP & His Minor UK Indie Celebrity All-Star Backing Band – one of the joys of their sets is seeing just who is going to be on stage, and today it appeared even to catch Keith by surprise as a mystery last minute trumpeter swelled the ranks which also included members of Carter USM, Salad, The Wimmins Institute, GUTTS and many more.

Dexy is a long-standing Joyzine favourite and we were given a glimpse of what’s to come from his forthcoming second album.  Spoiler: it’s going to be ace.

And proceedings were kicked-off by Silent Star, a brand new synthpop band featuring Patrick Bennett and Andrew Bowker, who were playing their debut show.

All in all it was a splendid way to say goodbye to 2019 – see you down the front in an independent music venue somewhere in 2020.
