UK antifolk legends David Cronenberg’s Wife are back with a new EP ahead of the release of their fourth album The Ship (Necrologies) via the ever excellent Blang Records. We’re delighted to bring you an exclusive premiere of the video for EP title track ‘Hannity Comes Home’ on Joyzine today.
Featuring frontman Tom Mayne stading in a snow storm and unfolding a story that takes in polar explorer Ernest Shackleton, the Ukranian mafia and the President of Kazakhstan, the track showcases the band’s penchant for dark humour and twisted tales over a blizzard of tense guitars and howling strings. It’s joined on the EP, which is released on digital formats today, by ‘Eternal Shade’, originally written for a theatrical performance that the band were involved in, and two new recordings of older songs, ‘Jailbird’ and ‘Sweden’, which they recorded on a Norwegian mountainside.
The band were leading lights of the UK antifolk movement of the early 2010s and continue to be a key part of the South London music scene today. Regulars on BBC6 Music, they have played with The Fall, The Nightingales and Jeffrey Lewis and recently featured on John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight. They launch their new album The Ship (Necrologies) at Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney on 27th March, followed by a show in Brixton with The Rebel on 2nd June at The Windmill.
