We’ve been waiting for a debut album from eccentric math-pop trio Barringtone ever since hearing debut single ‘Fever Head’ back in 2013, and the wait is almost over; though thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, we’re going to have to continue to be patient just a little while longer with the release of Bonanza Plan put back to 21st August.
Thankfully we’ve got a first view of the video for latest single ‘The New New’ to keep you going until then. And what a belter it is, featuring more swift unexpected changes of direction than a Lionel Messi highlights reel, it’s just the sort of synth-pop post-punk disco banger that we need to brighten up these monotonous days.
Asked about the track, frontman Barry Dobbin described it thusly: “Absorbed by lockdown fever-dreams, confronted by our myriad hopes and fears but denied the infantilizing illusions promoted by consumerism might we eventually emerge and find solace in nature – or an acceptable simulation thereof…..?”
‘The New New’ is released via Onomatopoeia Records on 1st May. It will be followed by the band’s debut album Bonanza Plan on 21st August.
