Track Premiere: The Other Ones – The Other Ones

A couple of months ago Derby-based ethical indie imprint Reckless Yes Records was home to a roster almost unmatched in its proliferation of Joyzine favourites, with releases from the likes of Bugeye, Chorusgirl, Fightmilk and Captain Handsome; but with the announcement in December of eight new signings, including Piney Gir, Paper Birch, Breakup Haircut and Bitch Hunt, it might not be long until we have to re-cast Joyzine as a Reckless Yes fan page.

Amongst the less familiar names announced were power-pop London quartet The Other Ones, whose self-titled single, out on Friday 8th January, is the first RY release of 2021, and if this two-minute slice of runaway guitar hooks and stop-start dynamics is anything to go by their forthcoming debut album will be one to look forward to just as much as those by the established Joyzine favourites they’re now sharing a home with. We’re delighted to bring you a first chance to listen to it today.

Speaking of the track, the band said “‘The Other Ones’ does what it says on the tin. The song is about being an Other One and owning it. Shouting a big fuck you to anyone who told you you’re not enough just by being yourself. We are not alone and there are many of us out there. Embrace being a weirdo and scream along with us.

‘The Other Ones’ is due for release on 8th January via Reckless Yes Records, followed by an album in the Spring.
