Frontman of a multitude of Joyzine favourites including Hey You Guys!, And What Will Be Left of Them? and Evilwitch, writer of excellent sci-fi sitcom podcast Pod to Pluto and occasional Joyzine columnist Peter Richard Adams would have a good claim for the title of most prolific DIY indie-pop artist of the lockdown era. Since the world shut down and stayed indoors, he’s produced a seemingly never-ending stream of ace new music, including (but not limited to) several slices of anthemic jump-around-your-bedroom power pop with Hey You Guys!, a beautiful Christmas EP with his wife Rosie (as Peter With Rosie), and most recently a new solo album, the cheekily titled Pete Sounds, which itself follows last year’s mini-album O.J.E.P.
Today we’re delighted to bring you a first look at the video for the latest single to be taken from Pete Sounds. ‘The First Folio’ features guest vocals from Emma Howett of Worcester band Chevy Chase Stole My Wife and comes complete with some excellent 8-bit visuals featuring a pixelated Pete and Emma, a talking cat and a magic carpet.
Speaking of the track, Pete says “The First Folio is a very silly song about the Isle of Bute, Shakespeare, poor driving and the untimely death of a kangaroo. Remarkably it’s based on a true story – although I have taken massive liberties. Given that it’s so silly I was kind of amazed when Emma Howett agreed to join me on it… and then I was doubly amazed when she offered to create such an awesome video for it as well.”
Peter Richard Adams’ second album, Pete Sounds, is out on 26th June.
