Video Premiere: Adam & Elvis – The Landlord

They’re a busy lot our Joyzine writers – when they’re not penning odes to the latest musical treasures they’ve unearthed for these pages, some of them are out creating a few gems of their own. Such is the case with Reading five-piece Adam and Elvis, who count our own Patrick Malone amongst their number. Today they release their latest single ‘The Landlord’, a wonky new wave disco tirade against unscrupulous lessors and the imbalance of power that has largely let them get away with it throughout history.

Explaining the background to the track, they explained “Last week a historic court ruling meant John Christodoulou – a Monaco-based property magnate and 82nd on the Sunday Times Rich List – was ordered to pay £19,000 to four of his ex-tenants for failing to correctly license his property last week. With many others facing eviction now the eviction ban has been lifted and with no plan in place to tackle the housing crisis we are chomping at the bit to get out and play our polemical style of disco and hopefully be part of an important change and show that good mental health cannot be achieved without secure housing for all.

To celebrate the release, Adam and Elvis play a launch show at Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney on Thursday 19th August, with support from Dead Slow Hoot and Ballard. Tickets, priced at £7.50, are available here.

We’re delighted to bring you a first chance to see the track’s video on Joyzine today.
