Last month Joyzine teamed up with our pals at Sonic Tonic for a fantastic show at our favourite East London independent music venue Paper Dress Vintage, with a packed crowd enjoying sets from Firestations, The Leaf Library and Alizee Leriche. We’re back at Paper Dress on 22nd February for another show rammed with Joyzine favourites. Tickets, priced at £7 (including all fees) are available via Dice.
Headliners Shattercones have been on our radar since we saw their first ever gig, filling the Kentish Town Forum with a vast, cinematic sound drawing on surf, drone, alt country and spaghetti western soundtracks with an unorthdox set-up of lap steel, viola, guitar and drums. Since then they’ve featured twice in our ‘favourites of the year’ lists, most recently with their This Sceptic Isle EP.
Maggie The Cat might be familiar to Joyzine readers as a former member of post-punk cult heroes Madonnatron. Now ploughing a solo furrough, with a debut album produced by Liam D May at Trashmouth Records (Fat White Family, Warmduscher, Meatraffle), her sound is described as “a cacophony of searingly twisted ballads and a landscape of lurching electronic dark disco beats, all richly coloured by the artist’s uncompromising vocal performance”.
Proceedings will be kicked off by Naomi In Blue, the post-country solo project of British-Chilean artist Naomi Larsson-Piñeda. An award-winning journalist, she turned to music as an alternative way of telling stories, aiming to reconstruct what we understand a singer-songwriter to be and question the constraints of genre.
Sonic Tonic and Joyzine present Shattercones, Maggie The Cat and Naomi In Blue at Paper Dress Vintage, Mare Street, Hackney on Tuesday 22nd February. Tickets priced at £7 (including fees) are available via Dice.
