Tomorrow LA punk rocker Kate Clover releases her debut album Bleed Your Heart Out via fan funded label SongVest Records. Produced by Brandon Welchez of Crocodiles and featuring members of Davila666 it’s a strident, strutting mix that plots a line through post-punk, new wave and riot grrrl without ever sounding like a punk rock history lesson.
From the filthy bassline that kicks off opening garage rock banger ‘Crimewave’, through the wonky uptempo jangle of ‘Pleasure Forever’ to the wailing harmonica of final track ‘Follow My Heart’ it’s a non-stop thrill ride of fuzzy guitar riffs, indie disco floor filling rhythms and Clover’s cool as ice vocal delivery.
“Bleed Your Heart Out is inspired by the glitz and grime of classic LA punk,” explains Clover. “Bands Such as X, The Gun Club and The Germs, spiked with a power-pop punch of the Buzzcocks. Lyrically inspired by Nick Cave and X’s transgressive and poetic approach to songwriting and the wit and musical cadence of Hunter S. Thompson. Thematically, it explores the intricacies of government conspiracies, self-discovery, love, hate and self-preservation. It’s a rallying shout to would be believers.”
We’re delighted to bring you a first opportunity to hear the album in full before its release on Joyzine today.
Bleed Your Heart Out is released on 22nd April via SongVest Records. Kate Clover is currently on tour in North America.
