Video Premiere: Rudi Zygadlo – Selotape

It’s not often that you’ll read the words “inspired by Donald Trump” within these pages, but we’re going to have to give credit for the germ of the idea for the video for Scottish art-pop surrealist Rudi Zygadlo’s new single ‘Selotape’ to the disgraced former reality tv show host, WWE wrestler and multi-time bankrupt as Zygadlo’s Freddie Mercury-esque moustachioed housewife takes the ex-President’s infamous suggestion that disinfectant taken “by injection inside, or almost a cleaning” could be used to treat Covid to its tragic conclusion.

‘Selotape’ follows previous singles ‘Transport‘ and ‘Athens Love Boat‘ as foretastes of his debut EP Chattanooga. The three tracks showcase Zygadlo’s creative restlessness, with ‘Selotape’s insanely catchy guitar hooks following on from ‘Transport’s soulful harmonies and cowbell-heavy blinking rhythms and his philosphical thought experiment as breakup song ‘Athens’. Speaking of the new track, Rudi explains, “Sometimes when you’re making music, you hit a dead end and you just start making childish noises into the mike in one last desperate roll of the dice. You run the silly noise through a string of effects, straighten up your back, wack in some power chords and voila – this the best tune I’ve ever made.

We’re delighted to give you the first chance to see the video for ‘Selotape’, directed by Jonny Blair, here on Joyzine today.
