‘Is Mad Cool Festival real?’ is one of the top Google searches for Mad Cool Festival. We can tell you that, yes, it is 100% real. With this year’s line-up, it’s not surprising that some people think Mad Cool is some kind of fantasy festival. If you haven’t yet heard of it, you are in for a splendiferous treat this July.
Mad Cool 2018 saw the festival win the prestigious NME award for Best Festival Line-up 2018. After two years of pandemic-related cancellations, many of the bands that signed up for 2021 are performing, with additions from big global names in music history. This year’s line-up will blow minds, honestly, it looks like Mad Cool 2022 is set to take off to the next level of festival royalty.
Placebo, Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, Metallica, Pixies and Deftones are just some of the acts set to wow around 60,000 daily festivalgoers. There are over 100 bands and musicians playing across the five-day event. Located in the metropolitan capital of Spain, Madrid. Mad Cool 2022 will be showcasing rock, pop, indie and dance music from across the globe. The festival takes place in IFEMA, an open-air cultural center located in the midst of the hustle of Madrid. The organizers have created a festival that is as much about the music as enjoying the city itself. Music starts in the evening and goes on until the early hours, allowing everyone to avoid the heat of the day. This gives attendees time to nurse hangovers, savor the delights of Spanish breakfasts and spend time in the city during the daytime before heading over to IFEMA. In my experience of festivals above 25 degrees, it is a real treat not to have to wake up in a blistering tent and spend the day balancing beer and water consumption while trying to navigate maps and stages. Madrid has a lot to offer from bars and restaurants to open-air swimming pools across the city, plus being filled with everyone else who is attending the festival too. Mad Cool 2022 is from Wednesday 6th July – Sunday 10th July 2022. Tickets are selling out fast but there are still some available on the official website.
If all this wasn’t enough the organizers are also putting on a brand-new event this year. Mad Cool Sunset, a one-dayer to be held on the 10th September with Rage Against the Machine headlining the event amongst bands such as Biffy Clyro, Stereophonics and Wargasm.
