Ford’ is the latest single from London based foursome Modern Woman. The band released their debut EP ‘Dogs Fighting in My Dream’ last year.

This new single is a quirky, offbeat  three minute delight. I have read some comparisons to artists such as Kate Bush. But for me, this is hard to compare to anything else. Although artists like Nina Hagen come to mind through the versatile vocal stylings of band founder Sophie Harris. Her vocals dominate the majority of the song, before the rest of the band collaborate towards the end as the song reaches its final crescendo. The bassline is bound to leave an indent on your mind.

If you enjoy punky, chaotic alternative indie, then you will probably enjoy this single.

Ford’ is being released through End of the Road records, the label who also run the festival of the same name. Sophie says about the song: “‘Ford’ has been one of the oldest songs in our repertoire. I wrote the bassline loop for it a long time ago, one day when I only had a bass to hand. I structured the song and added guitar and simple vocal. I wanted to give it a raw and slightly sinister feel to it. We can spend an incredibly long time working a song in our practise space before we ever play it live, so we wanted to make sure that energy resonated through the recording” She adds, “Lyrically, it is about a girl who borrows her brother’s Ford and drives it around. For Juan’s vocals towards the end of the song, I went with a William Burroughs-esque cut up technique and collected different car-related writings, chopped them up and reformed them.”

‘Ford’ is out now through End of the Road Records and you can purchase it through Bandcamp
