SINGLE REVIEW: MORGAN HARPER-JONES – SWIMMING UPSTREAM

I don’t review singles very often (even though singles seem to be the most popular releases these days). Sometimes though, I can’t help it.

Morgan Harper-Jones has a voice that strikes you right in the heart. A clear song writing ability and lyrical talents mean I’m instantly a fan.

“Swimming Upstream” deals with an injury suffered last year, leaving Harper-Jones out of action for 10 months. In that time she says she “became a bit obsessed with reading about people who had suffered but were ultimately grateful for their suffering because of where it led them when they let go of fighting it.

Harper-Jones grew up in Rochdale and comes from a musical family, explaining that “songwriting was an integral part of their daily life“. She also has her Grandma to thank for a top notch early education in Diana Ross and The Supremes, Otis Redding, Patsy Cline and old Motown classics.

With a background like this and clear natural talents to share, I’ll be eagerly awaiting what this artist has in store for 2023… and long may the knitting career continue.

“Swimming Upstream” is out now on all streaming platforms. Connect with Morgan Harper-Jones via:
