It’s great to have Mandy Indiana back with us as it seems an age since their outstanding ‘…’ EP. The new single ‘Pinking Shears’ is the first track to be released from the album i’ve seen a way that’s coming out on Fire Records in May.
‘Pinking Shears’ is a great clanging track that sounds like someone in a suit of armour having a fight with corrugated iron in a video arcade. That’s the perfect fractious sound for a song that has singer Valentine Caulfield venting in French about her “frustration at the state of the world…the myriad of inequalities, everyday aggressions, and grievances that plague our existence in late stage capitalism“. The vocals skip like an angry stone over the heavy foundations of lockstep drums and a growling low-low siren rising and falling like a subterranean monster prowling underneath the track.
The album i’ve seen a way is out on May 19th and you can pre-order it from Mandy, Indiana’s Bandcamp page or all good record stores.
