MADMADMAD have returned with a double A-sided single: ‘Do You’ b/w ‘Shambles’ which are heralds for a packed Spring and Summer on tour. I feel Benji, Kevin and Matt have been holidaying in another dimension whilst recharging their 80s BOSS drum machine and field recording otherworldly noises in order to pack their tracks with synapse-tickling sounds.
‘Do You’ is the kind of music your that’s playing in the deep-sleep-nightclub of your subconscious, only half-remembered when you wake up. This is catchy, metronomic, quirky, android funk and it’s hard to keep still when it’s playing.
‘Shambles’ ups the BPMs and recalls Prince at his stripped-back best on tracks like ‘Sign of the Times’ or ‘Bob George’, or maybe more like The Residents if they had recorded at Paisley Park.
MADMADMAD are popping candy and jelly, or squelchy fireworks, but I imagine they have no trouble getting humans and inter-dimensional beings alike up on the dance floor to strut their strange but beautiful stuff.
