SINGLE REVIEW: CHROMA – WOMAN TO WOMAN

Chroma are back with a new single ‘Woman to Woman’ and it’s a force 12 anthem that is guaranteed to turn gig audiences into a frothing sea of bodies. But this is no vapid banger, it’s a rallying cry against TERF culture about which vocalist Katie Hall says “‘Woman to Woman’ is a song about allyship with the Trans and Queer communities. With the rise of TERF culture, it’s more important than ever to stand up for people from minority genders. The song is about calling out women who call themselves ‘feminists’ who actively oppress others.

‘Woman to Woman’ runs at a blistering 150 bpm and it’s a hell of a second release for their new label, Alcopop! Records. It’s a sandstorm driving a bulldozer on an active volcano and the power coming from the snarling guitars, dragon roar vocals and pummelling drums are easily matched by the power of the message.

Woman to woman
Now you’ve got my attention
Why do you give me that side eye like that?
Why d’you talk about my body like you know its bad?
Just think for a minute
That it’s none of your business

Woman to woman
That’s some strong allegations
Gonna fight until we know the truth
Gonna fight until we know what’s better than you
Trans women are women
And you can keep your letter

You see me, why d’you put me down like that?
Why d’you try and put me down?
Why d’you try and put me down like that?
Why you try and put me down?

Woman to woman
Now you’re the centre of attention
Now we’ll see you try and backtrack
It’s really wild, do you think you’re really better than this?
Yeah, real exciting
C’mon and try better

You see me, why d’you put me down like that?
Why d’you try and put me down?
Why d’you try and put me down like that?
Why you try and put me down?
If you stab me in the back would you feel power?
Go on and stab me in the back, make you feel better
Why d’you try to put me down like that?
Why d’you try and put me down?

I’m a feminist
I’m a feminist, I hate in-fighting, crying all night
I’m a feminist
Didn’t think you put me down
This all seems kinda crazy
Go on come at me

So you tryna put me down like that?
Why d’you try and put me down?
Why do you try like put me down like that?
Why do you try to put me, would you? Would you? Would you? Would you? Would you?
Would you stab me in the back, would you feel power?
Go on and stab me in the back, make you feel better.
Now you try to put me down like that?
Why do you try and put me down?

Woman to woman
Now you’ve got my attention

Why do you try and put me down like that?
Why you try and put me down?
Why do you try and put me down like that?
Why you gotta put me down?
If you stab me in the back, would you feel power?
C’mon and stab me in the back, make you feel better
Now you try and put me down like that?
Why do you try and put me down?
