‘Witness’ is the latest single from singer and song writer Hannah Wicklund. The single is from her forthcoming album The Prize. The Prize is being released on October 13th. It will be the follow up to her 2018 debut LP- Hannah Wicklund and the Steppin Stones.
Hannah Wicklund has been playing music since the age of nine with The Steppin Stones and has shared stages with some incredible bands, including rock legends Jefferson Starship and Kansas.
‘Witness‘ is a catchy song which is a combination of Tori Amos eqsue Piano Rock, and a tinge of country music. It’s a big, powerful song with a gorgeous fairytale like video to match. According to the press release for the song: “Witness’ is about claiming heartbreak, embracing it, and using that to heal through some of the toughest times in life. “
Hannah is also an artist and has painted the album artwork (as well as for her singles) for her upcoming album. The painting is of a castle, and the video for ‘Witness’ was filmed in the grounds of a castle in Tennessee.
‘Witness’ is a song Hannah says truly helped heal her. “Getting into your first relationship as a strong, driven, and young woman, it’s very difficult to experience someone dim your light, but even harder to recognise it,” she confesses. “Insecurities within young people play out in terrifying ways, and it’s very hard to not absorb other people’s darkness. ‘Witness’ was the awareness I found in myself that it is not my responsibility to save anyone.”
Hannah Wicklund is a creative force to be reckoned with, and if ‘Witness’ is anything to go by, The Prize will be an exciting album that I’m personally looking very much forward to.
