It’s December, which round these parts means it’s time once again for The Joyzine Advent Calendar! This year we’re celebrating our 20th edition, so we’ve scoured the archives to mix in some calendar classics along with a few fresh festive cuts from our favourite artists.
As always every track on the calendar will be absolutely free to download, and we don’t force you to sign up for our mailing list (though you can if you want, here) or hand over all of your personal data. The calendar is our Christmas gift to the world (or at least the part of it that enjoys seasonal songs by obscure indie musicians), but if you’re also in the giving mood we’d love you to make a donation to our chosen cause, the excellent anti-racism charity HOPE not hate, which you can do here.

For today’s free advent calendar treat we have an old (or should that be ‘auld’) traditional favourite given a new lease of life by Brighton synth and drums space noise duo AK/DK, who provided one of our albums of 2020 with the excellent Shared Particles and are soon to unleash its follow-up. Today they’re here to help you ring in the new year with their version of ‘Auld Lang Syne’, which you can download below.
We caught up with the band to find out more.
What have you been up to this year?
We’ve been busy making our new album. We’ve been away for a bit, but now we’re back with some more new music and plenty of drums and synths for everyone.
What have you got planned for 2024?
We’ll be releasing our fourth album next year. Got plenty of live dates coming up too, with some festival and headline shows mixed in for good measure.
Tell us about your track
Although this one isn’t strictly a Xmas song, it’ll hopefully keep you dancing for a little bit longer on your NYE. We love kosmische music, vocoders and old drum machines; so that’s what you get plenty of on this track.
This year Joyzine has been celebrating our 20th birthday – what were you up to in 2003?
That is a long time ago! I think we had both just moved to Brighton around then, so that probably means late night fun at venues like the Freebutt, Hectors House and The Void. All venues that are sadly gone from the scene these days.
Any new year’s resolution?
We really just want to get out there playing again. Hopefully we can help bring some much needed joy and togetherness to what are pretty strange times.
