Former abandoned cinema EarTH in Hackney was the perfect setting to host Fire records 40th birthday all dayer. Totalling 10 hours and 11 artists, it was great to see established artists such as The Dream Syndicate and Graham Reynolds, and find newer bands to fall in love with (Bas Jan, I’m looking at you. ‘Back to The Swamp’ is such an ear worm). There were many highlights (Kristin Hersh‘s set, Marta Del Grandi’s beautiful vocals and Islet’s infectious energy, amongst others). Stewart Lee was an entertaining compare and the visuals provided by the very talented Inner strings were amazing. Finally, supergroup ‘The Giant Syndicate’ finished off the day’s festivities with a bang. Here’s to the next 40 years, Fire Records.
