It’s a well worn cliché that there is a fine line between bravery and stupidity. Which side of the line releasing your Christmas single in the form of a 90 second pop-punk sea shanty about whale hunting in the 19th Century falls I’ll leave for you to decide, but that is precisely the decision long-term Joyzine favourites Hey You Guys! have taken with their new track ‘Brave Bwoys’, which will be out on Monday 25th November.
These landlubbing Limeys may have a fondness for sailing close to the wind but they run a tight ship, with the track’s minute and a half running time chock a block from stem to stern, discarding all flotsam and jetsam to deliver a broadside with high register guitar to shiver our timbers and a pounding rhythm section to batten down the hatches, while figurehead Peter Richard Adams spins the yarn of a doomed whaling trip (giving a nod to The Pogues’ version of traditional shanty ‘Greenland Whale Fisheries’ as he does so) . It races along at a rate of knots, leaving us all at sea by the time it’s all sewn up but this is a copper-bottomed banger and further evidence of why we’ve always liked the cut of their jib.
Today we are delighted to let the cat out of the bag and share with you an exclusive first chance to see the track’s video.
