Lambrini Girls are a Brighton-based punk duo who have been making waves on the live scene over the past few years. Along the way, they’ve earned comparisons to riot grrrl legends Bikini Kill—a high accolade that sets the bar for their music. Any band evoking comparisons to Bikini Kill is bound to land on my radar sooner or later, and Lambrini Girls are no exception.
Their debut full-length album, Who Let The Dogs Out?, kicks off my reviewing year with a bang. This record is a relentless sensory assault, unapologetically brash and bold, and certainly not for the faint-hearted. Packed with righteous rage and powered by a gloriously feminist fusion of punk, grunge, and noise, Lambrini Girls have delivered a powerhouse of a debut.
The album tackles a range of important issues head-on, channeling raw emotion and sharp social commentary into their music. Tracks like “Company Culture” shine a light on sexual harassment at work, while “You’re Not Round From Here” critiques gentrification, and “Big Dick Energy” takes aim at male chauvinism with biting wit and ferocity.
One standout track for me is “Nothing Tastes as Good as it Feels,” which confronts the deeply personal and traumatic topic of eating disorders. The lyrics cut straight to the bone, with lines like: “As my head hits the rim of the toilet lid, Kate Moss gives no fucks that my period has stopped, I wish I was skinny but I’ll never be enough.” It’s an unflinching and haunting reflection of the internalized struggles many face, and the band’s willingness to delve into such raw territory makes this track particularly poignant.
Musically, Lambrini Girls remind me of Petrol Girls—fierce, political, and unapologetically angry—all qualities that hit the sweet spot of my musical taste. Their sound is visceral, urgent, and brimming with energy, making Who Let The Dogs Out? an unforgettable listening experience.
The album closes with “Cuntology 101,” a track that’s as catchy as it is defiant. Be warned: you’ll be humming “I’m cunty” in your head for days afterward.
This is a fantastic debut album that cements Lambrini Girls as a band to watch. I can’t wait to see how they evolve and to experience their ferocious energy live. If Who Let The Dogs Out? is any indication, Lambrini Girls are here to stay, and they’re taking no prisoners.
