The Concrete Boys are Danish-American band who say they are made up of “madness, depravity and rock-like music”. ‘Uh Huh Yeah’ is the first single from their forthcoming album Everything’s Better Than You.
They have packed a lot into 3-minutes, kids shouting, drums that are heavy on the stomp for all 4-on-the-floor beats, guitars twang and strum, bongos bounce, and everything is glued together by a super-simple but super-catchy guitar riff that tops and tails the “Uh huh uh huh yeah” chorus which is going to get stuck in your head like gum on your shoe.
The video is a thing of disturbing joy and features a topless bear of a man wearing a butcher’s apron and a sailor’s hat, and freaky hand puppets drinking cocktails and playing on stage. It was was filmed at Ølluminatti in Viborg, Denmark where it says on YouTube you can buy your very own TCB Sperm Lightning beer! As if this wasn’t weird enough.
This is in what I like to call the ‘repeat button catnip’ category. You won’t be able to help yourself from playing it again and again until you almost hate yourself for not being able to stop listening to it and you’ll beg someone to shut the electricity off. ‘Uh Huh Yeah’ is as louche as a school full of scoundrels and as pleasingly sleazy as Link Wray drunk at a kid’s party. Tusen takk Concrete Boys you’ve cheered my day up considerably.
Taken from the album Everything’s Better Than You out on April 18th through Crunchy Frog Recordings.
