I first had the pleasure of hearing Baby Said last year when they played at Loud Women Fest, and they ended up being my highlight of the day. Their pure talent was palpable, and their stage presence hypnotic. The duo—Italian/Punjabi sisters Veronica (20) and Jess (18)—are young, but their professionalism and skill are far beyond their years. Seeing them live, I was blown away, and now, with the release of their debut album B.S., I can confidently say they’re an astonishingly talented band destined for big things.
The album is packed with big, powerful tracks that showcase the duo’s immense musicianship. Take Everything has a killer guitar riff, while Burn slows things down, allowing their stunning harmonies to take centre stage. But don’t let their polished sound fool you into thinking they’re playing it safe—far from it. Alongside the classic rock sheen, B.S. is laced with a fierce attitude and infectious sass. Nowhere is this more evident than on my personal favorite, Hate Me, which delivers an unapologetic punch with its defiant chorus: “You’ll love me, oh I’ll make you hate me, so that you can’t shake me, I’m gonna get you all in your head, make you regret, so go get fucked…”
Overall, B.S. is a powerful rock album bursting with huge choruses, searing riffs, and a personality as bold as the band itself. Baby Said are a very talented band and are well worth keeping an eye on.
