Since the end of 2024 we have watched in awe as Bureau de Change bring track after track, song after song that blows us away. In a polarised world BdC scream truth to power, with their rage-clarity often using singer Flora’s personal experiences in razor-sharp lyrics such as you will find on their debut EP Are You Flirting With Me? which covers what singer Flora calls, “a world where violence against women is becoming ever more prevalent” with sexualised language, the trouble with James Bond, the rise of the far right and sexual assault.
The band say about new single ‘Resistance’, “With the UK basically stripping the rights of peaceful protesters it makes it even harder to stand up for what is right without expecting punishment. This song in particular is more referencing the fight for female equality and sometimes our voice is hidden behind how we are treated by men. We need to see resistance as an act of joy, otherwise the voices of many will be suppressed to be the voice of very few.“
Bureau de Change They show no signs of letting up on the promise of their ‘bold and outrageously confident debut’ and ‘Resistance’ is a staccato blast of atonal chords and roadwork drums that jump time signatures featuring vocals that drip with scorn at one moment then scream their call to action at the next. ‘Resistance’ is a battering ram at the doors of the patriarchy.
