Crayola Lectern, the project of multi-instrumentalist Chris Anderson (described by Joyzine’s own Andrew Wood as “a national treasure“), has a new album, Disasternoon, on the horizon and today we’re delighted to bring you the first opportunity to see the video for the LP’s title track. A beautiful, sweeping piece of psychedelia with echoes of Bowie at his most expansive, the song is “a story of shared abandon” with a title inspired by Anderson mishearing his daughter asking what they were doing “this afternoon.” It is accompanied by a cosmic video, directed by Sadie Anderson, in which the musicians perform against a projected backdrop of stars and planets.
The track comes backed by a veritable who’s who of lovely and talented music folk including drummer Damo Waters, who we first crossed paths with in Ciccone in the early days of Joyzine and has since gone on to tickle the skins for everyone from Jim Bob to Electric Soft Parade to Spratleys Japs, trumpeter Alistair Strachan, who amongst others has blown for Alessi’s Ark and They Came From The Stars I Saw Them and a guest appearance on guitar from Bic Hayes of Cardiacs and Levitation.
Watch the video below and keep an eye out for news of the album, due for release via Onomatopoeia Records later in the year.
