Cheerbleederz are back with Prove Me Wrong, and honestly, it feels like they’ve grown up a bit — without losing that sparkly, chaotic, totally lovable punk energy that makes them them. This EP is sweet and pink on the outside, but it has a seriously tough centre.
Opening with “i deserved better”, it hits like a punch in the chest but also makes you grin. I love the lyric-free chorus — it’s just them harmonising, letting the melody do the talking, and it somehow says everything without words. I felt so seen listening to it: “I deserve better” isn’t just a line, it’s a full-on emotional release. Favourite track, no contest.
“Passenger Princess” is softer, a little poppier, and very cheeky — I kept imagining Barbie making a punk song. “It’s me, I’m your passenger princess” — yes, girl, same. There’s sparkle, there’s attitude, there’s fun, and it’s exactly the kind of lightheartedness the EP needs. “Sleepwalking” keeps that softer, dreamy vibe going, while “you got it in for me” starts gentle but explodes into frenzied guitars — soft, then LOUD. That dynamic really hits me in the chest: it’s emotional, it’s cathartic, and it makes the band feel alive.
Lyrically, the EP is about friendships, loss, growing up, and realising who you deserve in your life — but it’s never preachy. I feel like these songs were born out of actual tears and laughter, sitting in a practice room, crying and singing together. That honesty carries through: Cheerbleederz aren’t just playing music; they’re sharing pieces of themselves, and it makes you feel like you’re part of it too.
They’ve kept all the hallmarks of their sound — zippy hooks, sweet vocals, frenzied guitars — but there’s a confidence here. They’re willing to take risks, play with melody, lean into vulnerability, and just be themselves. It feels grown-up in a good way, without losing the messy, joyful charm that made me fall for them in the first place.
Prove Me Wrong is fun, it’s cathartic, it’s empowering, and it’s very, very punk. It’s music for dancing around your room, screaming into your hairbrush, or just feeling less alone in the world. Cheerbleederz have made something that’s both playful and tough, sparkly and sharp, and it reminded me exactly why I love this band.
If you’ve ever needed a reminder that it’s okay to stand your ground, let go of toxic stuff, and still have a lot of fun while you’re at it, this EP is it. Sweet, loud, heartfelt — and, honestly, impossible to resist.
