Some records are made to be heard on vinyl, and Very Motorcycle, the new 7-inch EP from Heather The Jerk, is one of them. Short but sweet, its four tracks clock in at under seven minutes in total, but in that time, Heather delivers a whirlwind of retro-inspired punk energy that leaves a lasting impression.
Blending raw punk grit with rock ’n’ roll swagger and a dash of 1960s girl group charm, these songs feel both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. Opener “Lie Detector” kicks things off at full throttle, a 1:20 blast of frenetic energy that grabs you by the collar. “Song For You” follows with a punchy, heartfelt edge, while “Anxiety” crams pure urgency into just over a minute. Closing track “No Animals” stretches things out (slightly!) to 2:21, its rhythm and hooks leaving you wanting to flip the record over and start all over again.
The lo-fi production and vinyl format feel like the perfect match for these tracks, evoking the raw spirit of classic garage punk singles while showcasing Heather The Jerk’s knack for infectious songwriting. Very Motorcycle is proof that songs don’t have to be long to pack a serious punch. This is punk rock distilled to its purest, most joyful form—short, sharp, and impossible to resist.
