Armed with an array of synths, a golden voice and a sharp wit, John Grant and his band brought his effortlessly cool show to Manchester’s New Century once again in support of his 2024 record The Art of the Lie. Shifting masterfully between absurdist funk and affective balladry, Grant demonstrated his rare ability to move everyone in the room in both senses of the term.
Support came from the enigmatically-masked Lynks, who swiftly won over the crowd in a way that any opening act would kill for, with their unapologetically bold and tongue-in-cheek electronic pop, delivered with immaculate theatrics and choreography (complete with tennis racket-wielding backup dancers).
Photographer Mat Coffey was there to document events in stark black and white.
