News: Rebellion Festival celebrates 30th Anniversary this year

Despite only attending for the first time myself last year, the amazing Blackpool punk institution Rebellion Festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026.

Originally named Holidays in the Sun back in 1996, the festival first opened its doors at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens to celebrate 20 years of punk. That inaugural line-up was an absolute belter, with legendary headliners X-Ray Spex, The Damned and Buzzcocks setting the tone for what would become one of the most important punk festivals in the world.

Thirty years on, Rebellion is still ripping us a new one, delivering line-ups that honour punk’s heavy hitters while also giving vital space to brilliant upcoming bands. Punk rock itself celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and if anyone thought interest might fade, Rebellion proves the opposite — the festival has sold out completely for the last two years running.

Taking place once again at Blackpool’s iconic Winter Gardens from 6th–9th August, this year’s edition is already shaping up to be something special. A massive 63 bands were announced in January alone, with plenty more still to come. Acts confirmed so far include Millie Manders and The Shut Up, The Courettes, The Stranglers, and Bow Wow Wow, offering a perfect mix of new blood and punk royalty.

After having such an incredible time last year, my excitement for 2026’s edition — often lovingly referred to as Punk Christmas is already sky high. Four days of loud, sweaty, defiant music in one of the most uniquely atmospheric venues in the UK? Yes please.
