LOUD WOMEN Fest is only a few days away. I can’t think of a better way to warm up for Saturday than checking out their latest compilation album. This is their seventh release. The compilation includes 22 LOUD WOMEN-approved artists, with many performing this Saturday at their London festival.
The album releases tomorrow, Friday 4 September. A digital release will be on Bandcamp, and 300 CDs will be available in a limited run.
If you’ve followed LOUD WOMEN for any length of time, you’ll know that their compilations are about much more than simply putting together a collection of bands. They are a snapshot of the ever-growing community that LOUD WOMEN has built around feminist, queer and femme-led music, bringing together artists from different countries, scenes and musical backgrounds.
And Volume 7 really demonstrates just how much that community has grown.
The 22 artists on the compilation span punk, riot grrrl, post-punk, indie, rock and plenty of things that don’t fit neatly into any one genre. The line-up is:

There are quite a few names on here that I’ve already had the pleasure of seeing live, including Hagar the Womb, Skint Knees, The NaNaz, Yakkie, WREX and The Wokerati Party, so I already know there is some serious musical talent packed into these 68 minutes.
Hagar the Womb were one of my favourite discoveries at this year’s Rebellion Festival, despite the fact that they’ve been around for more than 40 years and I was embarrassingly late to discovering them. Skint Knees were another Rebellion discovery for me, bringing their riot grrrl influences and infectious energy to the Introducing Stage. I also caught The NaNaz, a brilliant Welsh band whose music tackles subjects including the menopause, while WREX delivered one of the most energetic sets I saw all weekend.
Yakkie are another firm favourite of mine, having seen them previously at LOUD WOMEN Fest and supporting Dead Pioneers, while The Wokerati Party brought their colourful brand of political satire and ‘woke punk’ to Rebellion this year. Their set, complete with appearances from Elon Musk, Snowflake FC, Nigel Farage and Binface, was one of my Sunday highlights.
And that’s only the artists I’ve already encountered live. One of the things I love most about LOUD WOMEN is that there is always another band to discover.
The compilation also shows just how international the LOUD WOMEN community has become. Alongside artists from across the UK, Volume 7 includes music from Australia, Canada, the USA, Germany and the Netherlands, reflecting the organisation’s increasingly global reach. LOUD WOMEN has already taken its festivals and events to four continents this year, with more still to come in Japan, Australia, Canada and the USA.
It’s quite a journey from the small DIY London gig that started it all.
I’ve been attending LOUD WOMEN Fest since 2022, and one of the things that keeps me coming back is the sense that this really is a community rather than simply a series of gigs. The line-ups are musically diverse, the atmosphere is welcoming, and I’ve discovered countless artists through LOUD WOMEN who have gone on to become firm favourites.
Volume 7 feels like another extension of that ethos: 22 artists from different places and different musical worlds brought together under one very loud, very feminist umbrella.
And the timing couldn’t be better. With LOUD WOMEN Fest London taking place at Rich Mix this Saturday, 5 September, the compilation is the perfect soundtrack for getting yourself acquainted with some of the artists before the festival. And because the festival runs across two stages without clashes, you’ll even have the chance to see many of them live.
The physical release is limited to just 300 CDs, so if you’re a LOUD WOMEN collector, I’d get in quick. Otherwise, you can pick up the digital version and start discovering some new favourites immediately.
