TIGER!SHIT!TIGER!TIGER! is an epic name and ‘Blurred’ is another epic glimpse into their forthcoming album Dissolve Here which is out in January 2027.
As a rule, I’m not a huge fan of the shoegaze genre and I have always found the epithet a little patronising. I think that shoegaze at its best (which TSTT are) is the kind of music that stares into the abyss or draws power from a blackhole, not just down at a pair of slow stomping Doc Martens. Since I first delighted in seeing the name TIGER!SHIT!TIGER!TIGER! (and I enjoy saying it out loud as much as I enjoy writing it), and heard their 2024 album Bloom, I have been in thrall to their hypnotic brand of abyss-summoning.
‘Blurred’ offers up more keening ice-bursts of guitar that shoot out into space and could easily get a message to alien worlds faster than Voyager I and II while the bass and drums are a monolith-solid rhythm section keeping the song rooted to the earth. The band say of the single, “‘Blurred’ was written to capture that precise moment where overstimulation turns into complete sensory anesthesia”
The accompanying video by Paolo Pinaglia and Denny Mosconi is a wonderful collage of overlaid show motion shots of the band setting up, wandering about, and playing in what looks like a low-ceilinged basement.
