Nostalgia’s no bad thing. I like remembering how I felt when I first heard Nirvana, how excited I was to hear the new Lemonheads record, and “how cool is the new Weezer video??” I was reminded of this when listening to new single ‘Wash it Down’ by Demob Happy; four Brighton lads channelling 90’s grunge. Loud heavy guitars, addictive chorus and a witty video with a trippy Spike Jonze DIY feel to it.
The more I listened, the more I loved it. I’ll admit this is partly because of the 90’s memories it produced but it got me excited to hear their debut album, Dream Soda, released in October on SO Recordings. Dream Soda; a concept album, features ‘sci-fi inspired sounds’ and ‘dystopian messages’. The idea behind this feeding into Demob’s music. I’m hooked!
Fresh from playing this month’s Reading & Leeds festival, championed by XFM and BBC Radio 1, they seem to be on the right road to success. The band are about to embark on a UK tour and I for one will be there, creating new memories of grunge, albeit for an anti-utopian hour (or so).
