Single Review: Youth Man – Pigs

Youth Man aren’t here to sing you softly to sleep, instead they are here to scream in your face and play as loud as possible. I bloody love them for that. They are a three-piece from Birmingham and they’re one of the loudest bands around.

Their new song ‘Pigs’ is a 2 and a half minute scream-fest. It is gloriously loud and if you ever doubt the power of front-woman Kalia then you’re probably as dumb as Boris Johnson. Her voice has this rawness to it that makes her tower over anyone else making music like this. ‘Pigs’ is a furious track that shows just how loud and fast this band can play. The drums will send you into a frenzy and as everything else falls into place around them, you can’t help but think there is no better band around.

I’ve seen Youth Man live just once, and personally I think they are one of those bands that you just need to see live. As good as this single is, on record their sound doesn’t do them justice. They are one of those bands that must be played loud and in a live setting. Kalia is everything a lead singer should be, and if I had the right words to praise her and the lads, I would use them. All I can do is urge you to support this band in all ways possible, play the music loud and go nuts at one of their shows.
