I love The Lovely Eggs. I went to see them a while back at their album launch for This Is Our Nowhere and I had a great time. It was the night before the results of the election, and listening to The Lovely Eggs was the perfect antidote.
The press release quote simply says; ‘psychedelic fuzz pop’ but to me the ‘Eggs are so much more. They are underground punk rock for a start and have that DIY punk ethos in spades. So many other reviewers describe them as ‘oddball’ and that baffles me. It’s just straight-talking, honest song-writing and performing. When having a bad day at work I used to make everybody sing, with me; “People are Twats!” (one of my favourite ‘Eggs songs). Their songs have that infectious inclusive effect on you. Being present at their launch you could feel the love for this Lancashire duo. It was obvious that despite their huge cult success and popularity, they were still the band they wanted to be.
‘Goofin’ Around (In Lancashire)’ has a 90’s indie, pop feel to it with loud guitar, loud drums and catchy lyrics. I cannot recommend The Lovely Eggs enough. You need to have them in your record collection. They write songs inspired by their everyday life with true Lancashire wit and beauty. No wonder BBC6 are fans. The single is out on the 13th November and taken from their brilliant fourth album; This Is Our Nowhere, out now.
