Album Review: Steven Adams & The French Drops – Keep It Light

Keep It Light, by Steven Adams & The French Drops is like a breath of fresh air in the current political climate. It is fun, uplifting and energetic. Keep It Light does exactly what it says on the tin. The upbeat, jovial mood runs throughout the entire album. It bridges an attractive mixture of genres: indie, alt-rock and pop, with folk-esque moments and moments of soft, tender acoustics.

This clever and effective amalgamation of great sounds has been perfected by Adams over the years, having been the lead figure in other brilliant bands before this one. Adams co-founded Broken Family Band back in 2001, and Singing Adams in 2010.

Now Adams’ kids make their debut on the bands’ track, ‘Bring on the Naps’, featured on the Keep It Light album. Perhaps the most fun and carefree song on the album, ‘Bring on the Naps’ salutes the rejuvenating powers of taking forty winks. The funky mix of bouncy rhythms, sax and family vocals is heartwarming. It’s a reminder of how great the simple things in life can be, an especially important reminder in the year 2020.

Keep It Light will be released on August 21st on digital download, CD and vinyl via Fika Recordings.
