Single Review: PERMO – Heroin

Following the release of ‘Ultraviolence’ in October, Falkirk punks PERMO have released their third single ‘Heroin’. It’s a track that focuses on toxic relationships and the strain they cause. Bassist Hamish Georgeson says that ‘Heroin’ is written “from the perspective of someone looking at their friend’s relationship and seeing they’re trapped”.

Clearly unimpressed by this friend’s situation, PERMO don’t hold back. “Your balls are in her handbag while she’s shagging Tinder dates” spits singer Ross Ferguson, leaving no room for interpretation. The instrumental side of ‘Heroin’ matches its lyrical bitterness, with PERMO’s signature fuzzed-up bass and guitar propelling the track forward as a frantic drum beat, provided by Ross Malcolm, completes the chaotic set.

As with previous singles ‘Bloodlust’ and ‘Ultraviolence’, PERMO have proven that they’re a force to be reckoned with. While there’s clearly a formula to their releases, over 30,000 streams on Spotify would imply it’s a formula that works. Keep an eye out for PERMO, they’re on the right track and it doesn’t look like they’re stopping.

‘Heroin’ is out now on Disobedient Records.
