Single Review: Weekend Debt – Why Don’t You Realise?

Weekend Debt are no stranger to big tunes. With almost 75,000 streams on their last three releases combined, not forgetting another few thousand on their Living Under The Influence EP, the band are comfortably making their mark on the UK indie scene. ‘Why Don’t You Realise?’ is the latest offering from the Glasgow four-piece and it’s Weekend Debt at their very best.

Recorded at the same time as ‘Pomposity’, singer Grant Scott describes the track as a “different entity” to their previous single. “The song was written during lockdown about the frustration and jealousy that comes with still ‘fancying’ someone, and seeing them with someone you don’t feel deserves them” says Scott. The band’s signature energetic indie-pop keeps listeners invested from start to finish. Guitar lines mirror the vocal melody before exploding into the track’s chorus, full of bright chords and singalong lyrics.

‘Why Don’t You Realise?’ is an emotional look back at what could have been. The twists and turns mirror a relationship perfectly and that’s what Weekend Debt do so well: relatable topics wrapped up in expertly crafted indie.

‘Why Don’t You Realise?’ is out now on all major streaming services.
