SINGLE REVIEW: COACH PARTY – FLAG (FEEL LIKE A GIRL)

Coach Party are one of the finer things to come across the Solent from the Isle of Wight (along with my friend Stuart who is awesome) and after the success of their After Party EP comes a new single ‘Flag (Feel Like A Girl)’ which is a loud-AF roar of anger which singer Jess Eastwood says is about “those who know what it’s like to feel unsafe, objectified or hurt by someone. It’s an intense anger where you just want to see that person suffer as much as they made you suffer.  It takes you to the point where you’ll do anything to protect the people around you from this person, whether you know them or not. Look out for your mates.

The video, directed by Dan Broadley, is a revenge-romp that’s Jane Austen meets Deathwish with flintlock pistols, as the video’s heroine metes out gunpowder justice to the preening, braggadocio of the men who have caused all the pain and sleepless nights: “wanna hurt you back, just like how you hurt me” shouts Eastwood in the chorus.

The band pack acres of intensity into ‘Flag’ and they could cut down the scumbag subjects of this song with the guitar riffs alone. There is so much explosive energy on display it sounds like a firestorm picked up by a hurricane during a meteor strike. The band are currently on an extensive tour (dates below) and if they only played ‘Flag (Feel Like A Girl)’ repeatedly for an hour it would still be an incredible gig. Flag well and truly planted Coach Party are now top of the mountain.
