We’ve made it to double figures on the 2021 edition of The Joyzine Advent Calendar! Yesterday saw a trio of free download treats from the lovely people at Alcopop! Records, including tracks from Frauds, Tokky Horror and Beach Riot, and a competition to win free tickets to see the latter at The Lexington next week (click here to download the tracks and enter the competition). Today we’re back on a festive tip with a new seasonal track from another artist we’ve loved this year.
As always, the tracks are completely free to download and there’s no need to sign up to any mailing lists to access the songs (though if you’d like to you can join ours here), but if you’re enjoying the tunes we’d love you to make a donation to the wonderful charity Help Musicians, who offer health and welfare support to musicians at all stages of their lives.
Let’s find out who’s behind today’s window…
We last caught up with Irish born, London-based singer songwriter Michael Gallagher, aka The Mining Co., in September following the release of his latest album Phenomenology, an epic retro-futurist concept album centred on the tale of Talby, the main character in John Carpenter’s cult 1974 sci-fi film Dark Star.
In 2019 he released a Christmas EP, Three Kings, and he’s followed that up this year with a double A-side single, from which today’s track, ‘Last Stop for Tired Reindeer’ is taken. A swooning seasonal beauty written in the style of the Great American Songbook with string parts arranged and performed by Nashville based musician Chris Carmichael, the track sees Gallagher empathising with Santa’s dependable team of reindeer as they reach the end of another Christmas Eve shift.
