The Joyzine Advent Calendar: 24 Days of Free Music! #3 – Hey You Guys!, Peter With Rosie + Peter Richard Adams

Yesterday’s free festive fancy came courtesy of Lost Map Records in the shape of Gordon McIntyre’s “You and Me and The Ghosts of Christmas Past” (get your free download here). Today we’ve a trio of treats from one of the most compulsively creative people we know.

As always, the tracks are completely free to download and there’s no need to sign up to any mailing lists to access the tracks (though if you’d like to you can join ours here), but we’d love you to make a donation to the wonderful charity Help Musicians, who offer health and welfare support to musicians at all stages of their lives.

Onwards to the free music!

Busier than Santa’s elves on Christmas Eve, Peter Richard Adams somehow manages to juggle countless musical projects, a sci-fi podcast sitcom (the excellent Pod to Pluto) and banging out the occasional book. He’s even found time to write his own intros to today’s free musical treats, so I’m going to shut up and let him get on with it.

How can it possibly be time for the Joyzine Advent Calendar again? I think about Christmas pretty much all year round, yet even I’ve been taken by surprise this year. I suppose it’s got something to do with 2021 feeling a bit like a replay of the previous year… Which for me has basically meant concentrating on making records again. Admittedly things have moved on from last December a bit though. It was particularly good to stagger into life onto stage to play live again – especially when I got to join the live band at Paul Joyzine’s Civil Partnership gig. That was a dream come true for me. I’ve always wanted to abuse a freshly hitched couple by singing Weezer badly at them.

HEY YOU GUYS! – ‘I’m Sorry’

HEY YOU GUYS! had again intended to go on some tours this year but that totally wasn’t going to happen. So instead we did a little more work on our ‘ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS EP’ which will include ‘I’m Sorry’. We also managed to return to the live stage supporting The Middlenight Men at their album launch at the Camden Underworld which was FANTASTIC. Next up for us is our Christmas spectacular in our hometown of Worcester on Sunday 19th December (tickets here) – as long as those pesky germs don’t get in the way.

Peter With Rosie – ‘The Oxen’

For the last few years my wife Rosie and I have made Christmas records. We initially started doing this instead of going on honeymoon (which is a perfectly legitimate thing to do), but now it’s become an annual habit we can’t seem to shake and means I spend all year working on Christmas music. This year’s record is called Christmas Eve and is all about the myths and legends surrounding the best day of the year. ‘The Oxen’ is the lead song and features Rosie’s dad Michael Head.

Peter Richard Adams – ‘The Roaring Twenties’

I’ve also done my best to keep busy on the solo front, releasing my third mini-album ‘Pete Sounds’ which, as a title, I’m still far too pleased with myself about. The lead song on the record is ‘The Roaring Twenties’ which I suppose is an attempt at being ironic or something.

A merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
